‘Speedy Roll’ Wins 2020 Kinderspiel de Jahres

Speedy Roll designed by Urtis Šulinskas and published by Lifestyle Boardgames and Piatnik has won the 2020 Kinderspiel de Jahres (German Children’s Game of the Year).

The judges lauded the concept of using a tennis ball and Velcro to mimic a hedgehog collecting apples, mushrooms and leaves.

Moscow-based Lifestyle is a privately owned company that includes development, publishing, distribution and retail. It was founded in 2005, but joined the tabletop industry in 2006.

Piatnik, based in Vienna, is the largest Austrian game publisher. They also publish playing cards and puzzles. The company operates affiliates in Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary and the US. They were founded in 1824 by Ferdinand Piatnik and are still managed by his descendants.

Also nominated were Photo Fish by Michael Kallauch (Logis) and We are the Robots by Reinhard Staupe (Nürnberger Spielkarten-Verlag).

Children’s play coordinator Christoph Schlewinski led the award ceremony, which took place this year without a live audience.
