Geoff Engelstein announced he is leaving Ludology, the game design podcast he founded in 2011 with Ryan Sturm. Engelstein’s last show will be May 19.
Engelstein said he will be using the time away from the show to focus on his writing and game design. He will continue to produce Gametek segments for the show and return for special events. In 2017, he published “Gametek: The Math and Science of Gaming.”
“I never set out for Ludology to be the Geoff show. It is vital for the future of the show for people with different perspectives and experiences to be able to step on and off the show.” Engelstein said on social media.
Replacing Engelstein and joining co-host Gil Hova on the show will be Emma Larkins. Larkins, a writer, speaker and game designer, has a degree in product design from Stanford University. She is also the designer of “Heartcatchers” and “…and then we died.”
“As a long time listener myself, it’s hard to see Geoff go. Ludology was the first board game podcast I ever listened to. It inspired me, educated me, and drove me to ask hard questions about my own designs. It’s an honor to have the opportunity to carry on the torch,” she said on social media.
Scott Rogers, who produces the Biography of a Board Game segments, will also be playing a more prominent role in the show.
