The 2019 Spiel des Jahres nominations have been announced. Winners will be selected July 22. The “Game of the Year” award has been given to board games published in German-speaking countries since 1979. The award is usually given to family games.
The organization has given a prize for “Children’s Game of the Year”, since 2001, and the “Kennerspiel”, which recognizes games for a more experienced audience, since 2011.
No prize money is given for the awards. Winning publishers pay for the right to use the Spiel De Jahres logo on their games. The royalty money pays for the award program.
The jury for Game of the Year and Kenner Game of the Year 2019 are Harald Schrapers, Tim Koch, Martin Klein, Wieland Herold, Bernhard Löhlein, Udo Bartsch, Sandra Lemberger, Karsten Grosser, Julia Zerlik, Chris Mewes.
The jury for Children’s Game of the Year are Stefanie Marckwardt, Sabine Koppelberg, Stefan Gohlisch, Tina Kraft, Christoph Schlewinski.
Spiel De Jahres and Kenner winners will be selected July 22 in Berlin. Kinderspiel awards will be announce June 24 in Hamburg.
